Rep. Torres Secures $16,214,637 For Local Projects in Final Government Funding Package

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Torres announced $16,214,637 in Community Project Funding that he previously secured for New York’s 15th District in the House spending bills has been included in the final 2023 appropriations government funding package. This funding responds directly to some of the most pressing needs in Bronx.

“I am proud of the federal investment of $16,214,637 in Community Project Funding in this bill that I know meets long overdue community needs in the South Bronx,” Rep. Torres said. “These investments create jobs with better pay, make us safer, strengthen our communities, and start to tackle climate change.”

Rep. Torres championed funding for 15 projects that will directly benefit New York’s 15th District residents. These include:

  • $150,000 for the Bronx Community College of the City University of New York, Bronx, NY for health care job training
  • $750,000 for the Expansion of Behavioral Health Clinics in Montefiore School Based Health Centers
  • $1,000,000 for the Hostos Community College of the City University of New York, The Bronx, NY, for community college articulation agreement support
  • $500,000 for the Lehman College of the City University of New York, Bronx, NY for a digital equity initiative, including technology
  • $250,000 for the Morrison Public Plaza and Open Market
  • $3,000,000 for the New York City Health and Hospitals – Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center, Bronx, NY for facilities and equipment
  • $800,000 for the New York Sun Works, New York, NY for a hydroponic farm STEM program, including equipment
  • $3,000,000 for the NYCHA Jackson Houses Exterior Lighting Installation
  • $600,000 for the Security Surveillance Systems Upgrades
  • $204,281 for the South Bronx Food Hub Expansion
  • $1,178,406 for the STEM and Green Career Internships for Bronx College Students
  • $675,000 for the Union Community Health Center, Inc., Bronx, NY for facilities and equipment
  • $1,000,000 for the UnLocal, Inc., New York, NY for services, education, and outreach to help financial self-sufficiency
  • $2,106,950 for the Urban Health Plan, Inc., Bronx, NY for facilities and equipment
  • $1,000,000 for the Worker’s Operation Center

The twelve-bill government funding package will create good-paying American jobs, grow opportunity for the middle class and small businesses, and provide a lifeline for working families. Taken together, the funding for New York’s 15th District and the funding increases for critical government programs will continue to reverse decades of disinvestment in our communities.
